Trading multiple IB accounts

Postby chrisburnley » Jul 01, 12:40 pm

It would be very helpful if one could specify how orders could be allocated to different IB accounts within a master account. Even better would be the ability to specify this based on the source of trades, say various IB systems versus manual entry etc.

On a related not it woudl be helpful if the positions screen indicated the source of the position, be it an IB system or otherwise.

Chris,

Multiple accounts can be traded from TB, they only need to be linked to the same broker login.

Allocations are also planned.

There is something I don't understand though: what do you mean by IB systems? If you enter an order in TWS there is no way for TB to determine if it came from a system or not.

At this time there is a system column in TB that displays whatever you want: just specify the system parameter when you enter an order.

Thank you, Francis. OK, I do mave multiple accounts under the same login ... to trade them together, how do I set up TB? And how would the trade be allocated across the designated accounts?

I'm sorry, I missopke previously ... I meant C2 systems.

C2 systems can only be traded on one account per TB instance. If you want to trade a system on multiple accounts they each need one TB running because each one must be connected to a different C2 login.

I should also point out that although you need one TB instance per C2 login, they can all be connected to the same TWS.

Allocating one system to multiple accounts would be contrary to C2 policy: the system vendor must get paid for each subscriber.

Thank you for clarifying, Francis. Just to be clear, I own all of the accounts myself so there is no question of the C2 vendor being paid for each subscriber. Unfortunately, it appears that making C2 autotrading work for me would require paying the vendor twice.

In that case a possible solution is to ask the vendor for free subscriptions for the other accounts.

I am an advisor that trades through IB. I have multiple client accounts that would be traded through TB.

From reading through the forum it sounds like there are two issues:
1) TB needs to be able to create the allocation for each order so it can be divided among the sub-accounts.
2) The security device issue: As an advisor I must login using a security device. It's not a problem for me to enter it manually at the beginning of each day. Is there any way to still use TB?

TradeBullet 2 does not support IB allocation profiles. You can still use the OTP device by launching and logging on to TWS manually, and then connect to TWS from TB. TB will not be bale to launch TWS by itself.

So will TB still work?

In other words, since it doesn't do an allocation, would it still shoot the orders across individually by account so that the trading still occurs?

If so, let's say I'm trading 100 accounts---any idea how much time it would take to process them?

Thanks--I'm very hopeful that TB is going to be the solution to my trading needs!

You will need to place order individually in the subaccounts (don't send them to the master account). 100 order is not a lot for TB, but I don't know what is the source of your orders: if it's TS8 then you will need 100 workspaces and I am not sure TS8 can handle that.

K, this is sounding good.

If I use TB to send trades fro TS to IB then it bypasses tradestation securities (and their fees) completely (other than any fees for use of ts software), correct?

I too am an advisor trading multiple accounts via IB's TWS. Source of my trades is TS8.

I am also waiting for TradeBullet to support IB's allocation profile.

Please let us know when the new version comes out that does this. Thanks.

We are working on TB3 which will support allocation profiles at IB but we cannot give an ETA.
